Listing, Transaction, Offsite — Etsy's Fee Stack in Its Own Words
Etsy publishes four distinct charges that apply to a sale. They do not always arrive as one line item.

Four separate fees apply to one sale, and only one of them is the headline number.

Etsy's seller handbook, in its currently dated revision, sets out the fees in sequence. A listing costs $0.20 per item and renews at the same rate each time a unit sells. The transaction fee is 6.5 percent of the total sale price, including shipping and gift-wrapping charges the buyer pays. Payment processing through Etsy Payments — the default and, in most countries, the required method — adds a further fixed charge plus a percentage that varies by the seller's country; for sellers based in the United States, Etsy publishes that rate as 3 percent plus $0.25 per transaction. Sellers who have been enrolled in Etsy's Offsite Ads programme and make a qualifying sale pay an additional offsite ads fee of 15 percent of the order total, falling to 12 percent for sellers whose annual sales on the platform exceed $10,000.
That offsite ads fee is mandatory for sellers above the $10,000 threshold (at 12 percent) and opt-out-eligible for those below it. Etsy places the advertisement — on Google, Facebook, Pinterest or comparable external platforms — and collects the fee only when a resulting click converts to a sale within 30 days. The seller has no visibility into which external platform carried the ad or what Etsy's underlying cost was.

Consider a $50 item sold to a buyer in the United States, with $8 shipping, through Etsy Payments, with no offsite-ads involvement. The listing renewal costs $0.20. The transaction fee is 6.5 percent of $58 — the item price plus shipping — which is $3.77. Payment processing at 3 percent of $58 plus $0.25 comes to $1.99. Total deductions before any other costs: $5.96 on a $58 gross receipt, or roughly 10.3 percent of the sale, including the listing fee.
Add the offsite ads fee for a seller below the $10,000 threshold on the same $58 order: 15 percent is $8.70, bringing total platform charges to $14.66, or just over 25 percent of gross. That figure is what Etsy's published fee schedule yields — not an estimate.
Etsy also charges a Regulatory Operating Fee in certain markets, including the United Kingdom, where the published rate is 0.25 percent of the item price and shipping. That charge does not appear in the main fee summary but is documented separately in the seller handbook.
The four headline charges — listing, transaction, payment processing, offsite ads — are the published architecture. How they combine depends entirely on volume, geography and whether an external ad placed by Etsy produced the sale.
| Listing renewal | $0.20 per item sold |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of item price + shipping + gift wrap |
| Payment processing (U.S.) | 3% + $0.25 per transaction |
| Offsite ads fee (above $10K annual sales) | 15% of order total; 12% below threshold |
| Regulatory Operating Fee (U.K.) | 0.25% of item price + shipping |
